Immortal City review

“To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the inner music the words make.  ~Truman Capote, November 1967”

Wondering around an old English book shop I found myself reaching for this beauty, Immortal City by Scott Speer. The cover art is what brought me in straight away and of course, that caption 'When guardian angels protect for money, what happens if one saves for love?' I had never seen a book like this; never heard of this idea. And that's what I love, something new and different in the young adult book shelves that I haven't come across.

Now, the way Speer has described his characters and added all of those little details really had my hand turning quickly over each page. He has gone that extra mile in describing the angels clothing exactly, which is key to his characters. In this book, angels are a novelty to humans, they're celebrities and Speer has portrayed this excellently.

However the one thing that irked me is the few typos found in the book that I couldn't help but notice however when I was pulled into this story, this new world where angels save only people with lots of money, it didn't matter. I'm a sucker for a good love story, a twist between them and a little action - this book had it and as soon as I can, I'll be purshasing the second book.

Have you read it? What would you rate it?
Let me know!
